고대 불교도 시야 속의 공자(孔子) 형상 고찰 : 한문(漢文) 불교사원지를 중심으로
본고는 현존하는 한문 불교사원지를 주요 연구재료로 삼아, 중국 고대불교도들 의 심중에 공자가 어떤 형상으로 존재하는지를 고찰하고 있다. 보통 불교와 유교 는 서로 다투고 물과 불처럼 서로 다르다고 여기지만 한문 불교사원지 속에서 공 자의 형상은 결과적으로 긍정적으로 그려진다. 즉, 공자는 화합하면서 뇌동하지 않는 중국 본토의 현자로 인식될 뿐 아니라 불교계에서는 포교의 방편으로 사용되기도 하4며, 석가모니와 동등한 동방성인으로 여겨진다. 당연히 근본적으로 봤 을 때는 이는 공자가 중국에서 가지는 지위와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 주목할 만한 것은 동아시아 다른 국가와 지역의 불교 신도들의 눈에도 공자의 형상은 이와 같 다는 것이다.
The images of Confucius from the perspective of ancient Chinese Buddhists -Taking Buddhist temple datas in Chinese as examples-
Based on the existing temple historical materials in Chinese, this paper examines the images of Confucius in the eyes of ancient Chinese Buddhists. The article holds that, different from the general impression of the struggle between Buddhism and Confucianism and the incompatibility between water and fire, in the datas of Chinese temples, the images of Confucius is generally positive：he is Not only a local sage who is harmonious but Not confused, but also a sharp weapon for Buddhism to promote Dharma, or an oriental sage equal to Śākyamuni.Of course, fundamentally speaking, these are related to Confucius' status in China. It is worth Noting that the images of Confucius is the same in the eyes of Buddhist believers in other East Asian countries and regions.
